Cranes are inspected daily or before each shift for safety. Monthly inspections are required for normal use, while heavy-duty or severe conditions may need weekly or more frequent checks. Detailed inspections are done annually or every 3-6 months for harsh environments. Critical events also necessitate immediate inspections.
NSW crane operators must hold a High-Risk Work (HRW) licence issued by SafeWork NSW. They must complete formal training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), pass assessments and demonstrate competency in crane operation, safety procedures and regulations. Different licences cover specific crane types.
A rigger in crane operations is responsible for safely attaching and securing loads to the crane, selecting appropriate lifting equipment and guiding crane operators during lifts. They ensure proper load balancing, maintain communication with operators and assess site conditions to prevent accidents and ensure smooth operations.
